Biblical Authority and Practise

Updated: Jul 13, 2019

Biblical authority is only as valuable as it is implemented in the actual life of the Christian community. Unless the truths of the Scriptures are put into practise by the people of God in their daily lives, it doesn't matter what theories of biblical authority they adhere too. A theory may be of interest and importance to the theological geek, but unless it informs the self-understanding and behaviour of the Christian community, it will not make any significant difference to the life of the average Christian nor will it impact the life of the world as the gospel intends. Unless God’s people practise what they believe and understand they will drift into a literalistic or a relativistic understanding of biblical truths as has happened so frequently in recent times.
