The gospel or good news is a message of Jesus and his kingship over all areas of life. It tells us that Jesus our Lord has gone before us and defeated the principalities, and powers that seek to hold us, and indeed the whole of creation, in their power and sway. It informs us that Jesus has won a great victory over our bondage to sin and death, in order, to set us free and give us the life of the kingdom of God in the here and now.
The reality is that this is no ordinary or everyday good news, rather it is life-affirming and life-changing good news. It affirms that we who were alienated from God have now been reconciled to God and incorporated into God’s family. So that, we are now given the privilege and responsibility of sharing and spreading this amazingly good news to a world that is in desperate need of it. Thus, the good news of the kingdom and reign of God is that God has not left us in a state of abandonment and devastation but calls us to repent or turn from our sin and our old ways of acting and thinking, in order, that we might look to him for hope and restoration, not only for ourselves but for the whole of the created order and the world in which we live.
