The Latin word , DOXA means ‘glory’ and it is intimately related to our understanding of worship. The Westminster Larger Catechism contends that the chief end of humanity is to glorify God and enjoy God forever. I would suggest that the glory of God is primarily encountered in the ordinary experiences of life. Thus to be a disciple is to allow our lives to be shaped by the mystery of God’s love, mercy and grace amid ordinary life. This means that we need to pay attention to faith stories of ordinary people, rather than thinking serious reflection upon the faith is the business of academic theologians or church leaders. So we need to encourage ordinary, everyday people to talk about their walk with God in the context of ordinary life. Otherwise, worship can so easily become something we do on Sunday’s. Thus discipleship is what happens as ordinary Christian people pray through life and finding themselves as friends of Jesus Christ.
