Violence Against Women (Poem)

Les Henson

Never-ending violence

In the homes

Of our city

Incessant, irrational violent

Family violence

Women threatened

And manipulated

Abused and raped

Living in fear

Of those who should love them

Beaten and downtrodden

Controlled and forbidden

Freedom curtailed

Bodies smashed

Lives destroyed

Afraid and unable to escape

Dying alone

In pain and anguish

A mother’s daughter

And a father’s little girl

And Jesus wept

For they know what they do.
