Our ability to deceive and delude ourselves is quite extraordinary. However at the heart of the Christian faith is a call to recognise our self-centeredness and see ourselves as God sees us, which involves the need for change and transformation – ‘Repent and believe the Gospel. Both the beginning and the ongoing process of faith in Jesus Christ revolves around our need to confess our sin, to acknowledge it, to identify it, and to do something about it. In other words, we must be changed and transformed. The recognition that we are sinners in need of God’s mercy and forgiveness presupposes the need for a fundamental change in the way we live, act and think. It involves a new attitude and a radical transformation of every aspect of our lives. It is both radical and revolutionary, but this is the Gospel, and there is no other.
