When we come to faith in Jesus Christ, we gradually recognise the full extent of our separation from God. Before coming to faith, we may not even have been aware of our need for God, nor our alienation from him. However, on coming to faith, the true depth of this separation comes to light when we accept and begin to comprehend the full significance of God’s reconciliation of the world to himself. With this acceptance, we enter into a new way of knowing ourselves and the world in which we live. Our old way of knowing hindered such understanding and prevented us from seeing ourselves and the world that we indwell as it is. But this new way of life that is an ongoing conversion enables us to understand both who we are and the condition from which God rescued us. Thus, we have entered a new reality that we were previously unable to perceive.
