The Risk of Faith
God calls us to be people of faith instead of simply people of belief. If we live in a world of belief, we feel safe and comfortable, but faith locates us on the edge where life is uncertain and uncomfortable. Also, belief is often related to religiosity and an institutionalised version of the Christian life that requires certainty. Whereas risk and challenge characterise faith, it is concerned with a relationship with Jesus Christ, and it is content with uncertainty. Faith requires a lifelong commitment to journeying with Jesus and pursuing a life of obedience to him. The only thing about the journey of faith is that he goes ahead of us on the journey, and he sustains us on the way. It’s not that belief is insignificant, but it must always take a secondary role to faith in Jesus Christ.
