The Restoring Work of the Spirit

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

As the people of God, we recognise how the incarnation, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ made ready the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It wasn’t until Jesus departed to be with the Father that the Spirit could come in fullness. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is primarily the Spirit given by Jesus to his followers to carry on his mission in the world, which, in part, involves the restoring of broken people and a broken world to the proper divine pattern. It is the Spirit, who both prepares God’s people and uses them in the healing of the world in preparation for the consummation of his kingdom. Thus, it is the Spirit who restores us to the image and likeness of Jesus Christ, works towards the reconciliation of the whole of creation in Jesus Christ, and makes us ready for God’s kingdom in the new heaven and new earth.
