As followers of Jesus, the pursuit of happiness is a mistake, instead we are called to pursue God by loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and spirit; and to love our neighbour as ourselves. I doing so, we begin to discover the deepest of joy that may be experienced this side of the consummation of the kingdom and reign of God. In the world, we are told that happiness is experienced in things and experiences. But such things are fleeting, and the happiness that we receive from them disperses quickly. Then we need another fix to restore our happiness in a never-ending cycle. Rather than pursuing happiness, we must seek after God who is at the root of the most profound joy.
