The Love of God for Us
Updated: Apr 1
I think that one of the most challenging things in life for each of us to accept is the fact that God loves us. Now, this reality is true whether we admit it or not. Indeed, if we had to be worthy to obtain God's love, then none of us would stand a chance of receiving it. We are all inadequate and imperfect. However, God loves us just as we are with all our flaws, blemishes and shortcomings. God's love is more significant than our failure and stronger than the sin, which seeks binds us for it is an everlasting and transforming love. Even our doubts do not put an end to God's love, nor does our faith create it. God's love is derived from the very nature of God, and it arises out of our relationship with God's beloved son, Jesus Christ. Thus as Henri Nouwen said, "There is a tremendous relief in knowing that (God's) love to me is utterly realistic, based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery now can disillusion Him about me, in the way I am so often disillusioned about myself, and quench His determination to bless me."
