The love of God must never be played off against the holiness of God. Today, some emphasise the love of God to the exclusion of the holiness of God. Others focus on God’s holiness downplaying the love of God. In reality, God is neither the vengeful, angry God of right-wing fundamentalism nor the self-indulgent, Santa Claus God of left-wing liberalism. God is both a God of love and a God of holiness. The two must never be separated from one another, for they are both central to the nature and character of God. God’s love is a holy love, and God’s holiness is a loving holiness. To separate one from the other is to deface the nature and character of God.
