The older I get, the more that I am amazed at God's goodness, not just when everything is going smoothly but in the hard times as well as the good. Indeed, it is in the difficult times that I tend to learn more about myself and God's goodness towards me. It is a goodness that is so overwhelming, particularly when I realise afresh how little I have done or can do to deserve it.
God is good, and subsequently, God never withholds anything from us that will benefit us in the long term. God in God's goodness is not stingy but abundant. Yet God is no Santa Claus figure who loads many unnecessary gifts upon us. He bestows on us only those things that will benefit us and lead to greater Christlikeness in our lives.
