People today are obsessed with personal freedom and happiness. They often focus on their rights almost to the exclusion of others. However, what they fail to realise is that true freedom comes with responsibilities and freedom without responsibilities rarely results in happiness. Self-orientation seldom leaves room for others, at least, in a meaningful way. Such a narcissistic lifestyle pushes others away and places an exclusion zone around the individual so that no one can get close. Consequently, they become an island unto themselves. When a society becomes a collection of individuals each exerting their rights as they bump into each other on the journey of life, the result is not pretty, and so we end up with a screwed up world.
