Our identity as the People of God

Les Henson

In baptism, we are called to commit our lives to a life of discipleship and faithful witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to repent and turn away from all idols and powers that hold us in their sway and live under the lordship of Jesus Christ. Thus, allowing the enabling power of the Spirit to direct us in the way of life, freedom, truth, and responsibility because we are dedicated to Jesus Christ, who is the clue to all history and the essence of the kingdom of God.

In following the way of Jesus, we are incorporated into the life of the triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the faith and teachings of the church down through the ages to our present time as it has been and remains faithful to Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. We are also incorporated into the church, the body of Christ, which is to be a life-giving community that enables us, both corporately and individually, to live out our calling in the world as faithful followers of the crucified, resurrected, ascended, and coming Christ.

What does this mean for us, as the people of God, in the concrete reality of the broken world in which we live?
