Involved in the Life of the World

Les Henson

As the church, we must understand our identity as the people of God. However, not only in terms of how we relate to one another but also in terms of how we relate to: the world; the neighbourhood; and the community in which we live. We can only be a blessing to the local community we inhabit if we become a meaningful part of that community, rather than being separate from it. Being a part of the local community, as the people of God, involves accepting a higher degree of responsibility for the welfare of the community as a whole. Thus, meaningful mission depends on the churches transformed from a closed community, separated from the world into a life-giving community deeply involved in the life and messiness of the world in which we live.
