Sometimes when we come to God in prayer, we come with the underlying attitude of getting the best deal we can from God. We may not be aware of our attitude, but it’s there nonetheless. We seek to bargain with God thinking or perhaps not thinking as clearly as we should imagining that we can somehow manipulate God into giving us what we want. The sheer stupidity of such thinking is that we somehow envisage that we can outsmart God and use him for our purposes. The reality is that we can’t possibly outsmart God, and why on earth would we want to try to do so. The fact is that God is our loving heavenly Father and he always wants the best for us even when we don’t understand what that might be ourselves.
