Faith and Inquiry

Updated: Aug 26, 2019

In striving to understand the things of God there comes a time in our lives when it is helpful for us to recognise that faith and inquiry are inseparable. Because if we are to grow in faith and knowledge of God, our understanding of God and his ways cannot and must not stand still. God grants us both the freedom and responsibility dig deeper into who God is and what it means for us to faithfully follow and serve him in the world in which we live. If we are to remain faithful, to God and his purpose for our lives, then we can’t continually tread water. We must push on seeking and searching for the fullness of the truth of God revealed and made known to us in Jesus Christ. We should not be satisfied with a basic understanding of the faith we profess. Instead, we must persistently search for the truth to which it points recognising that our understanding and knowledge will always be partial and incomplete. Such inquiry presupposes a willingness to question and to be questioned as we seek God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.
