Jesus didn’t jet in and jet out again when he came to earth. Instead, he came and pitched his tent among us. Jesus moved into our neighbourhood and lived in the midst of us. He identified with us as one who came to serve. Jesus took on our human flesh in his incarnation. In doing so, he entered our world so that he could deal with our sin, suffering and struggles. Jesus emptied himself, making time and space for us in the midst of the mess that we had created for ourselves. And he calls us to do likewise as we engage the people in our community and neighbourhood with the love of Christ.
