The church is called to participate in the mission of God, and its participation is primarily a spiritual activity. Without the working of the Holy Spirit in its midst, the church, as the people of God, is powerless to attain anything of lasting value. Consequently, it is vital that God’s people engaging in God’s mission have and continue to develop a deep and genuine spirituality. Learning and gifting are of great value, but they are nothing unless they are accompanied by a sense of weakness and humility, which, the Spirit alone can develop in the life of the missionary community through prayer and suffering.
