We all face temptations, but dealing with them is vitally important. To overcome temptation is never easy, but giving in to the temptations we face impacts our lives, humanity, and walk with the Lord. I would suggest that one of the best ways to overcome temptations is to avoid them. By that, I mean erecting barriers and obstacles against temptation.
For example, if you don’t want to get into a fight, then don’t go every night to seedy bars where you will likely get into a fight with an obnoxious drunk. Instead, go home each night and spend time with your family or read a good book. If you want to lose weight, it is really dumb to sit in front of a chocolate cake and expect you won’t be tempted to give in and eat the cake. So avoid situations that will inevitably cause you to be drawn into a fight or eat the chocolate cake.
Avoid those situations that will cause you to be tempted. It is the same with sin. We each know the sins that tempt us the most. So erect barriers and put in place obstacles that will help you avoid those situations that bring about temptation. It only makes sense to do so. God promises that we will not be tempted beyond our means to overcome. Yet it is better to avoid situations that bring about temptation in the first place.
