Days Gone By (Poem)

The sea raged crashing on the rocky shore

as the salt filled air ate tirelessly

at the iron railings on the town wall.

An old man in a cloth cap walked wearily

along the town wall thinking thoughts

of days gone by when he was young.

He stopped to watch the pounding waves

as he pondered the days of his youth

when life held so many hopes and expectations.

He thought of opportunities waylaid

and hopes misspent in distant days

as he continued long the town wall.

The crashing waves repeatedly pounded

the wind swept shore as the old man

made his way to the safety of his home.
