We Can’t Continue Living in Our Own Little World
Updated: Jan 16
We can’t continue living in our own little world. Christian people in the West have for far too long lived in their own little world often believing that in doing so they are remaining faithful to God. Certainly, we must avoid worldliness but that does not mean that we should avoid engaging in the affairs of the world. It means instead that we should not buy into the spirit of the age in which we live. It means seriously critiquing the worldview of the society in which we dwell and opposing the ideologies and trends that are at odds with the kingdom and reign of God. Rather we must be in the world but not of it in the sense that we allow the biblical story to influence and critique the world and its values. We are supposed to be the salt of the earth helping to preserve our society from the evils that befall it. We are to be a light on a hill helping our world find its way home to the true light that enlightens all humankind. Yet, we can do none of these things if we remove ourselves from the world. So we must stop living in our own little world and engage the world in the power of the Holy Spirit, with the love of God, and the grace and mercy that comes from Jesus Christ.
